3. What is the composition of the stromal deposits? Answer: The deposits are composed of amyloid
4. If the specimen were examined with a polarizing filter, what would be seen? Answer: Amyloid deposits demonstrate a green birefringence when viewed with a polarizing filter
5. What kinds of systemic manifestations can be seen in this condition? Answer: Systemic amyloidosis involving the skin arteries and other organs occurs in the Meretoja (Type II) variant of lattice stromal dystrophy. These patients may have facial paralysis and blepharochalasis after age 40.
