The patient is a 26-year-old female who presents with a two-week history of decreased vision. Her visual acuity initially worsened over a period of three days concomitant with her systemic symptoms leading to her diagnosis and treatment for acute promyelocytic leukemia. At the time of presentation the patient was severely anemic and thrombocytopenic with a hemoglobin of 9.4 g/dl and a platelet count of 14000/ml. She had not experienced any recent episodes of coughing, sneezing or strenuous activity.
Medications:
- Allopurinol 300 mg po qd
- Hydroxyurea 1500 mg po bid
- Decadron 8 mg po qd
- Ultransretinoic acid 40 mg po qam, 50 mg po qhs
- Pepcid 20 mg po bid
- Carfate 2 g po tid
